AUREL STODOLA – The Professor of DORIN PAVEL
Aurel Stodola was an engineer and inventor. He developed the study
of thermodynamics and other scientific fields. He was a professor at the
Institute of Technology in Zurich (ITZ), specialist for the introduction and
development of the gas turbine. He has educated and influenced hundreds of
engineers, including some of the greatest scientific minds (e.g. Albert Einstein).
During World War I, he worked with a surgeon to help wounded soldiers. In
1928, he invented the first heat pump, which still serves as the primary source
of heat generation for the City Hall of Geneva, Switzerland. He published a
highly acclaimed manual, translated into several languages and still used today
as a reference source. He constantly sought new knowledge in a wide range of
technical sciences, received honorary doctorates from four universities, has
won numerous awards and was member of the Academy of Sciences of
France. ITZ declared 2009 as „Aurel Stodola Year” and an asteroid (discovered
in 1984) was named ”Stodola 3891”. Dorin Pavel was colleague of well-known
physicist Albert Einstein through Aurel Stodola and ITH.
