THE PREVENTION OF THE OCCUPATIONAL RISKS
ON THE APPROACH OF ERGONOMICS AND SAFETY
AND HEALTH AT WORK
Taking into account the prevention principles settled by the Framework
Directive 89/391/EEC on health and safety at work, in the context of the new
emerging risks, particularly of musculoskeletal disorders and mental illnesses,
the role of ergonomics in the design of workplaces is growing, contributing of
the improvement of the welfare at work. Ergonomics aims at adapting the work
to humans. The concept of proactive ergonomics deals with the need to adopt
measures to prevent occupational risks still in design stage. The classic
approach of the risk prevention must be updated by an ergonomic one having
in view the need to avoid the workplace accidents and occupational diseases.

HEALTHY WORKPLACES – MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY
IN OCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFE CONDITIONS
In practice, maintenance activities are part of the daily tasks of most
workers. Inadequate maintenance work, or not taken in time, can cause
irreparable damage to the equipment, but also very serious occupational
healthy problems. Maintenance workers are exposed to many and varied
hazards in the workplace. For this reason, maintenance work must be based on
risk assessment. A series of European directives aimed at determining the
general framework of minimum requirements for the safety of workers. Thus,
the employer must ensure the safety and health of workers in all aspects of
employment. From a financial standpoint, an inadequate management of
maintenance activities is extremely costly, and may involve loss of income.

SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK IN
A „GREEN ECONOMY”
The „green jobs” were considered those involved in biodiversity
protection and of the natural environment, but they also include areas such as
low-carbon jobs. The need for energy security and the need to conserve
resources for future generations have led to increased efforts to find alternative
energy sources and for improve the energy efficiency. The „green jobs” should
be characterized by decent work, which provide adequate wages, safe working
conditions, job security, reasonable career prospects and the workers rights
respect. Unfortunately, not all green jobs are necessarily safe jobs. Often,
these jobs generate new risks and / or unknown in terms of OHS.
