STUDIES ON SOME AIR QUALITY INDICATORS
AFFECTED BY ROAD TRAFFIC IN CLUJ-NAPOCA CITY
The paper aims to present the current level of air pollution produced by road traffic in Cluj-Napoca city, and finally, provides possible solutions so that the pollution levels will be reduced and air quality will improve. Environmental Protection Agency in Cluj County has installed a number of 4 automatic stations for air quality measuring, in Cluj-Napoca. Measurement of PM10 pollutants is achieved by using LSPM10 method. All the recommendations were adapted to the specificity of Cluj-Napoca City, the second largest city in the country.

STUDIES ON SOME AIR QUALITY INDICATORS
research REGARDING THE INFLUENCE OF ROUGHNESS ON PERFORMANCE OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
The present paper presents the study of the intake pipes surface roughness and its influences on the performance of an internal combustion engine. The measurements of the roughness were made experimentally, and the influences were studied using three simulation software: AVL BOOST (2013.1), GT Suite (7.4.0) and WAVE (2014.1). In order to obtain conclusive results, the same engine (Opel Astra F engine type C20NE) was simulated in three software, using the old type of materials for the intake pipes (forged cast iron) and the newer versions of materials (plastic). The data from all simulations were extracted, managed and accurately inspected and interpreted. The main conclusion of the paper is that the surface roughness of the intake pipe has an effect on the power of the internal combustion engine, not only because of the weight, but also the flow is improved. The same conclusion was obtained from all software.

analizing a THERMAL MANAGEMENT SOLUTION of engine as EMBEDDED TECHNOLOGy in rally vehicles
This scientific work realizes a research of the carbon-foot-print aspects related with fuel supply system behaviour and management system analyse as well as engine consumption parameters, coolant temperature, environmental temperature and on-road-operational behaviour, in different traffic scenarios, with engine monitoring equipment in direct connection with the digital control module via on board monitoring. There are pointed-out the consumption levels and the carbon-foot print of the Skoda Fabia 1.4 l engine (50 kW). The opportunity for study the fuel consumption rate and the engine behaviour in the case of traffic scenarios on urban and extra-urban-national roads consists in the availability of technical means. The present paper aims the goal of outlining the problem related to the fuel consumption and carbon-foot-print.

contributions to the EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH OF INJECTION FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FROM 3.0i ENGINE OF BMW X 5 ROAD VEHICLES
This scientific article shows the results of multiple experimental tests and researches made on the basis of fuel injection process during different operating regimes. Measured parameters are in this case engine speed, fuel consumption, injection timing and engine temperature.
The main objective of these tests is to determine how fuel consumption is influenced by engine speed and engine coolant temperature if the vehicle is operating in neutral gear that means the engine has no load on the crankshaft. In this case the engine speed will be correlated with the accelerating pedal position. The road vehicle on which the tests will be conducted is BMW X5 3.0i model years 2002. There aren’t any detailed studies made on this model. It is a well-known that a considerable number of such vehicles are registered in our country. Besides this body type, BMW Factory equipped other vehicles with this engine.
The experimental tests offer engineers a better understanding of injection process and fuel economy in the case of conventional fuel supply systems. The experimental data are summarized and accurately analyzed and represented.

Fuel consumption improvement of an IC
engine by cylinder deactivation
The paper aims to analyse the fuel consumption gain of an IC engine equipped with cylinder deactivation technology, through software simulations. Data sets obtained with AVL BOOST simulation software were introduced in AVL CRUISE to run a NEDC cycle to demonstrate the feasibility of cylinder deactivation technology. Simulations were run separately for the urban cycle and then for extra-urban cycle to see what is the technology best suited for.

ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF A THERMOSOLAR SYSTEM.
A CASE STUDY
Integration costs of a thermal solar system for domestic hot water preparation are a decisive factor regarding the implementation of the system. Integration cost depends on the size, capacity, complexity and the type of the thermal solar system. The payback period is directly influenced by the costs of conventional energy prices. Thus, this paper estimates the economic efficiency or the payback period of a thermal solar system for a household with three persons. The thermal solar system is chosen based on the three-year average monthly water consumption. The payback period is estimated based on the last three year monthly average costs of natural gas consumption.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF
THE COMMON RAIL FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM AND
CONSUMPTION FROM THE PEUGEOT 4007 SPORT UTILITY
The research paper outlines an experimental evaluation of the parameters
related to fuel consumption, engine speed, vehicle speed and environmental
temperature in different gear ratios and accelerator pedal positions, with sport
utility vehicle Peugeot 4007 during the urban driving process. There isn’t an
explicit study concerning the consumption and performance in urban driving
situation of the Peugeot 4007. There are many SUVs on the roads of our country,
but there should also be an interest concerning their fuel economy and
environmental impact. The engine and environment temperature, besides the
gear ratio and accelerator pedal position have a significant influence on the
engine’s economy and pollution. In the present paper it is studied the fuel
consumption of the engine when driving the Peugeot 4007 SUV in order to outline
the relation between the gear ratio, vehicle speed and fuel economy. The
collected data is accurately evaluated and observed.

RESEARCH OF FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
PARAMETERS FOR THE ENGINE OF BMW 320D
The present article makes an analyze through experimental research of
the parameters obtained from practical measurements related to fuel injection
supply, consumption, operating regime and engine speed, in different situations
and accelerator positions, with sport oriented vehicle of the type BMW series 3
during the operating process. There aren’t such explicitly developed studies
concerning the injection parameters of the E90 engine model of BMW 320d on the
national level. It is known that there are many such vehicles registered in our
country, there being a strong will to know their performances and operational status.
The injection and combustion besides the supercharging have a major influence
upon the engine’s dynamic performances, fuel economy and pollution. Testing and
studying the injection and air-fuel supply systems on BMW diesel engines may offer
engineering solutions and optimizing ideas in order to improve their environmental
impact and fuel economy, while the engine dynamic behavior will be little affected. In
this work it is developed a program for testing such a dynamic engine and for
collecting the injection and other systems parameters in order to facilitate their
operational understanding. The data is managed and accurately inspected and

MASS OPTIMIZATION OF A FLAT PLATE SOLAR
Usually a flat plate solar collector is characterized by constructivefunctional
data, the mass of a solar collector is a constructive characteristic,
which influences more the assembling and transport costs. This paper presents
a method of optimizing the mass characteristics of a flat plate solar collector, by
using materials with low specific mass. As a result of this optimization a 17 kg
flat plate solar collector was realized, resulting in a weight reduction of
approximately 57 % compared to a common solar collector.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FLAT AND SPHERICAL SOLAR
COLLECTORS REGARDING THE EFFICIENCY CONVERSION
OF SOLAR ENERGY IN THERMAL ENERGY
The paper makes a comparative analysis of the conversion efficiency
of flat plate solar collectors and spherical solar collectors. The main structural
and functional characteristics of flat plate and spherical collectors are
presented. In the final part of the paper recommendations on possible use of
spherical solar collectors are proposed.

ANALYSIS OF EFFICIENCY FACTOR FOR A SOLAR
The paper makes an analysis of the efficiency factor of absorbing
plate to improve the conversion efficiency of solar collector. The functional
characteristics of absorbing plate are presented. It is known that the efficiency
factor depend also on the dimensions and geometry of the absorbing plate. In
the final part of the paper recommendations for improving efficiency factor of a
solar collectors are proposed.

STUDY ABOUT EFFICIENT SIZING OF THE TOTAL
COLLECTOR AREA FOR A DOMESTIC SOLAR WATER
Sizing a solar water heating system basically involves determining the
total collector area and the storage volume. Hot water demand for a household
over a year can be considered constant. The major problem is determining the
right size for the total collector area avoiding to over and under sizing the
system. The paper analyzes a sizing possibility regarding the efficiency of the
system from an hermetic point of view. The result show the system sized to
ensure hot water demand over the summer period is the most efficient; a
system sized to ensure hot water demand over winter period is oversized and
